I’m a bit 50/50 on my feelings at the end of today.
I don’t feel like I’ve read much today, but because I’m ahead of schedule I have actually finished my TBR pile and completed all the badges I’d aimed for AND started another book.
Maybe it’s because I know we’re getting to the end of the challenge so we’re getting a bit anti-climatic now.
Anyhow, as I said I finished my TBR pile after I finished reading ‘How to Marry a Werewolf’ by Gail Carriger
Since finishing the Parasol Protectorate series I’ve missed Gail Carriger and her little world, so it was fun to have a trip back. It was a bit like visiting an old friend and having a really fun day.
Faith Wigglesworth, human and an American, is in disgrace. In fact she’s so in disgrace her family are shipping her off to England with the intention of marrying her off to any Werewolf that will have her. What follows is a tale of courtship, family, betrayal and love.
I won’t go too much into the plot as it’s fairly standard, it is a short book, and if I start telling you about it I’ll probably end up telling you about the WHOLE book. I will just say though, Is it wrong that a Werewolf getting protective over his ‘intended’ gives me more tingles than Mr Darcy ever did?
So with ‘HTMAW’ done with and a day and a half left I had to pick another book, but a short(ish) one. I chose ‘Lanny’ by Max Porter as it only has 210 pages and the font seems slightly larger than usual (and it’s the third book I’ve been sent by NB and I still hadn’t read any of them). In fact I was reading ‘Lanny’ when I got involved with todays Twitter sprint, and a perfect opportunity came up . .
This Twitter sprint was hosted by @pagesandpanels who is very into Manga, so one of her questions for the sprint was and as it happens, even though I’m not sure if my book could be adapted for Manga, there was certainly a character which I thought would have a very interesting visual interpretation
as I said to @pagesandpanels, when she replied and said he sounded ‘interesting’ there have been several times when I’ve stopped reading, stared at the book and thought “What the heck am I reading!?”
So yes, a poor reading day, but it has resulted in me earning my last couple of badges “read a book with purple on the cover” and “read a book with 5 words or more in the title”There are three more badges:
- Read seven books
- Made a Reading Rush booktube video
- Go to a read-in
but, there is no way I’d be able to read 7 books, I don’t have a booktube channel, and there is no ‘Read-in’ near me (although they did do a live read-in on Instagram for people who couldn’t get to a read-in but I didn’t find out about it until it was nearly over. I did join in, but only for about 15 minutes, so I don’t think that can count) It appears though that those last three badges depend mainly on your circumstances and aren’t necessary, as it looks like I’ve achieved the ‘complete 2019 challenges’ badge. yay me!
