Reading Rush 2020: Day 7 (Final Day)

This years Reading rush is officially over, and I finished . . . ALL of my books!!

My read for today was ‘Reef’ by Romesh Gunesekera, for the prompt ‘Read a book with a cover that matches the colour of your birthstone

This is an evocative piece of writing about a young Sri-Lankan boy called Triton who goes to work as a house boy for a local marine biologist. It’s a coming of age story, about love and loss. Whilst also covering a variety of the island’s issues, from the impact of tourists and the decline of the reef to the impending civil war. This is what I like about Booker prize nominees (‘Reef’ was shortlisted for the Booker prize in 1994) I always feel like I’ve taken something away with me when I finish the book.

As luck would have it the final day of Reading Rush was also my day off. Seeing as the social interaction was what i love most about Reading Rush I participated in a read in . .

. . . in a twitter sprint . .

. . I didn’t join in an instagram challenge because todays was ‘Use your books to make an artwork’ and I didn’t feel my creative skills were up to the task. However I did share a little video to celebrate finishing the last book of reading Rush.

So, it’s been another fun year. I really don’t think I participated much this year though so next year I really do need to book some time off work to really get into this (I know, I know, I said the same thing last year) but I’ve finished and now looking forward to my medal arriving (It’s actually a coin you can purchase, but I never win medals for anything so THIS is going to be my medal!)

So for the final time, to the stats . .

Stats for Day 7 are:
Pages read: 190
Time spent Reading: 3hrs 02mins
Books Finished: 1

Challenge so far Stats:
Pages read: 1263
Time spent Reading: 22hrs 02mins
Books Finished: 7 (A Country to call Home, the Snows of Kilimanjaro, From Russia with love, Frankenstein, The Communist Manifesto, The Pearl. The Reef)

. . . and badges . .

I’ve done well, only two badges not earnt. I don’t really do Youtube, so that was never one I was going to earn. The bookclub one I didn’t actually realise they were doing a bookclub until it was too late for me to read the book, so missed out on that one. maybe next year.
